A speech I gave at the tail-end of sophomore year of high school
Hi. My name is Marc Friedenberg, and I’m running for Vice-President of your class. You might know me as the “Marc” in all those posters throughout the school. I appreciate the positive response you guys gave me for those.
I’d like to start off today by telling you a story. A story about a man. A man who lost one or two elections in his career. A man named Abraham Lincoln. I ran for Vice-President in the fall. Now, I’m not saying that I AM Abraham Lincoln, but…the similarities are startling. Lincoln was born in Illinois. I too was born in the United States. Lincoln wore a black top hat. I have a pair of black pants. The list goes on and on. But Lincoln and I share one trait that is undeniable – we both want to help other people by changing things in office. And that’s of course what this election is all about.
One of the reasons that I am the better person for this job is my schoolwork. I am a solid “A” and “B” student, and I always have work done on time. Plus I haven’t been absent yet this year. That just goes to show what a dependable Vice- President I would be.
There’s no doubt that this year was a good one. But each year for a class officer gets more and more difficult. There were 7 activities this year. There will be 11 Junior year and 19 Senior year. I think you’ll agree with me that you want the most dependable person for the job.
I thought I would try to stand out a bit and show you one of the things that I would like to do in office. During the last election my running mate, who is currently President, and I set up a web site about our campaign which was visited by 600 people in two short weeks. I plan to take that phenomenal interest and turn it into a school mailing list that we will run which will help spread class information around. It will take a lot of work but I’m willing to do it and I think it would benefit you all. I would also like to have a class web site. So if you have any thoughts about this please contact me sometime.
OK, well, I guess its time to vote. Pick the person who you think is the most responsible, organized, and dependable. I know that I am that person. So if you love America, and if you like Abraham Lincoln or even my weird posters, vote for me. My name is Marc Friedenberg. Thank you for your time.
